Choose To Forgive

Let Your Roots Grow

Some food for thought.

God Bless.

"Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.(NLT)" -Colossians 2:7\n

"God wants you to be rooted and grounded in him. He wants you to feel steady, strong, and ready for this life you have been given. Anxiety, uncertainty, and foolish actions are not a part of the plan he has for our lives. Dig into his Word and start growing a deep rooted love for your God. \n"

Don't Look

Interesting little devotional.

God Bless.

"Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. (NLT)" -Philippians 2:4

"By nature we are all selfish. The person we think about most is ourselves. We consider our own feelings, needs, desires, and disappointments more than we think about others. The Bible calls us to push back against that self-focused nature that can actually be destructive if left unchecked and take interest in others too. We gain joy when we take the posture of a servant. Take time to pray and consider the people around you today. \n"

These Things

I needed this! I love this! Encouragement below.

God Bless.

"These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. (NLT)" -Matthew 6:32

"When worry starts to overrun our minds we are functioning as unbelievers. Worry shows that we don’t understand our status in the family of God. God cares about the temporary things like the flowers. God will take even better care of you! We are called to trust God with our lives. When we start to worry rather than acting like an unbeliever instead bring your need to God and trust that He will provide. "

And We Know

I love this! Did I mention how much I needed this encouragement and wanted to share it.

God Bless.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. (NLT) -Romans 8:28

"God is masterful in weaving events together for His glory, even if it is painful, challenging, or traumatic. When your world comes crashing down, keep your faith focused on God. He will not fail you. When your attention is focused on a solid rock, your perspective changes and the rest moves into your peripheral view. How can you stay focused on God when all else fails? Plant yourself in God's word. Be persistent in prayer. Confide in an accountability partner who is mature in their faith."

Seek Him Early

Seek Him Early!

God Bless.

Seek Me Early

Top Free Christian applications Best rated Daily Devotionals:

Seek Me Early

Walk in My Way and trust Me. No evil can touch you. I am yours as truly as you are Mine. Rest in that truth.

Rest, that is, cease all struggle. Gain a calm, strong confidence in that certainty. Do not only rest in Me when the world’s struggles prove too much and too many for you to bear or face alone. Rest in Me when you need perfect understanding, when you need the consciousness of tender, loving friendship and intercourse.

The world, my poor world, flies to Me when its difficulties are too great to be surmounted any other way, forgetting, or never realizing, that if, with the same eagerness, those hearts sought Me merely for companionship and loving intercourse, many of the difficulties would not arise. The circumstances, the life, the character would be so altered – so purified, that those same difficulties would not exist.

Seek Me early, that is the way to find Me. Early, before I get crowded out by life’s troubles, and difficulties and pleasures.

But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. Proverbs 1:33

Temptation

Some Food For Thought.

God Bless.

Daily Affirmation Devotional

by Christian Channel

Temptation
Today : Temptation

TODAY’S VERSE
“And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, ‘God is tempting me.’ God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.” James 1:13-15 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
Temptation. Who has not felt its sting? Who has not been knocked in the gut and brought to their knees by this cancer of our soul? What keeps us in such bondage is the mistaken belief that temptations are “out there”. We see them as external enemies sneaking around waiting to ambush us. Now it is true that we have an enemy of our very soul, the devil, and he does seek to devour us, but James shares that the root of our temptations come from within us. James says that “temptations come from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions.” We can blame the magazine publisher or the movie producer but it is our own lust, our own unmet needs or misguided thinking that has caused us to dwell on pornography. It is our own misbeliefs and internal dialog that keep us coming back to drugs so we can self medicate. That is why Paul makes it clear that God is the one that must help us. He writes, “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” (I Corinthians 10:13 – NIV) What God’s grace does not prevent, because of our own humanness, God’s grace forgives. The Apostle John wrote, “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:8-9) Today, let Jesus untie the ropes that bind you. Like Peter, get up from the cell you are in. You are free! You have been liberated. Hear the words of Jesus, “Arise and sin no more.” “My son, my daughter, go, your sins have been forgiven you!”

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear liberator of my soul, I bring you my shackles. Take them. I bring you the key to my heart, unlock it. Heal me from the inside. Defeat my misguided thoughts, cast down the enemy of my soul. I look to you, who knows me better than I know myself. By your power, in your grace, because of your mercy, free me, forgive me. In Jesus’ name I pray.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God gives me grace to overcome temptations
Picture yourself wearing large gloves all day long. You are trying to eat, type, sew, tie your shoes and other tasks with great difficulty. You just can’t get the job done with such cumbersome hands. Feel the frustration and then you realize, I am this way because of the gloves but I do not have to wear the gloves. Feel the joy as you take the gloves off and begin to act the way you were born to. Picture yourself in a situation with a temptation. Feel the frustration you experience with the temptation. But then you realize, I have the temptation, I am not the temptation. Like the gloves picture God helping you rid yourself of the temptation and giving you the strength to live the way He created you to live.

The Abundant Life

Food for thought.

THE ABUNDANT LIFE

Free Christian Apps
THE ABUNDANT LIFE

John 10:10 (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

John 10:10 (MSG) A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.

As we finish this powerful verse today, let us look at the last part. Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” God wants us to have an abundant life. This means, and I like how the Message Bible says it, “More and better life than they ever dreamed of.” That is so good!

This life God wants us to have is an abundant life. It is a full, rich, and overflowing life. The word “abundantly” is from the Greek word periossos, and it means to be above, beyond what is regular, extraordinary, or even exceeding. This is not just abundance; it is super-abundance!

God, our Father, has so blessed us that, when we let Jesus into our hearts, He not only showers us with His goodness, He makes it beyond what is regular, extraordinary, or even exceeding. Again, this is not just abundance; it is super-abundance!

Sometimes in life, we can have too much of a good thing, like rain, or ice cream. Well, we can never have too much of God! His grace is so good, yet it never hurts us. His mercies are new every morning! It is like going to a fruit tree, and everyday it is full again with ripe, juicy fruit. Every day, I can pick as much as I want. It is beyond what is regular, extraordinary, or even exceeding. So today, do not look at your shortcomings; look to Him and His super-abundant life!

Confession: Today, I have a super abundant amount of God’s life and goodness. God, my Father, pours out His mercies, fresh and new each day. Today is a new day with new possibilities!

He Shall Not Be Afraid

Oh, this little devotional encouraged me ans may it be encouragement to you as well.

God Bless.

"He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord." (Psalm 112:7)

Christians should not be overcome by "bad news", but it does not mean that they are faithless if it oppresses them. Bad news pushes us to ask difficult questions about God and our faith. No matter how bad the news is, although we may be tempted like Job's wife to disassociate ourselves from God, He wants us to respond in humility and faith, accepting His will and trusting the plan He has for us. Bad news doesn't mean God has forsaken or cursed us on the contrary, it means God has specifically chosen a trial that will bring Him glory and allow us through faith, to grow.

Even After All This Time

Definitely inspired me.

May it inspire you.

God Bless.

Today's Quotation:

Even after all this time. The sun never says to the earth, "you owe me." Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky.

Hafiz

Today's Meditation:

Love is arguably the most powerful force in the world that we have at our disposal--it costs us very little and produces so much. But if we wish to use it to its full potential "lighting up the whole sky," then we must give it to others, and we must do so without conditions. If I desire authentic love, then I cannot say I will offer it only to those I like, or exclusively to my friends and family--I must show love to all humans, regardless of who they are, what they have done, or what they believe, for when we place conditions on our love, we weaken its power and diminish its very nature.

Hafiz is sharing with us a very powerful message about love--its selfless nature. As he puts it, "the sun never tells the Earth, 'you owe me.'" Although it receives nothing in return, it endlessly lights up the entire sky of half the Earth. We should strive for this love--a love that nurtures and sustains, a love that shines outwardly instead of in, a love that provides energy and warmth for others, a love that asks nothing in return.

Society likes to romanticize love and make it appear as something we fall into. But love is not a state of being, it is a positive action; it is something we must actively give. If we only love because we expect to receive something back, then we are placing conditions on that love.

Love is a power. Love is a cause. Love can change the world. But this type of love--this powerful, positive force in the world--must come without conditions.

Today's Challenge: Show unconditional love towards others today.

Questions to consider:

What are some conditions you place on your love?

How might you better use love as a positive force? Is there anything holding you back?

What kinds of positive things might you accomplish if you were to use love as a positive force?

For further thought:

When the power of love overcomes the love of power the world will know peace.

"Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom. (NLT)" -Ecclesiastes 9:10

"Life is short. Keep in mind that in this life we have just one opportunity to use all that God has gifted us. It's easy to get lazy and neglectful, and God has challenged us to do our best in whatever we put our mind to doing. Let us rise to the call and do well."

One Thing We Can Do

This inspires me.

God Bless.

Today's Quotation:

There is one thing we can do, and the happiest people are those who do it to the limit of their ability. We can be completely present. We can be all here. We can give all our attention to the opportunity before us.

Mark van Doren

Today's Meditation:

Being completely present is the swiss army knife of living life fully. When we can be all here and fully present, we can experience life in all its glory--the ups and downs, the laughter and the tears, the heartfelt relationships. And when we are "all here," we can give all our attention, all our purpose, all our energy, into making the most out of the opportunities that lie before us at that very moment.

Do not be in a rush to get through the day. Take your time as you go from task to task. Live, laugh, breathe, and love. Life is more about the quality of our experience here and our achievements, than it is about the quantity. Over the years, I have come to notice things about my parents and grandparents that never really occurred to me as a young boy. It used to seem peculiar to me that grandma would want to simply walk with us while we rode bikes around town and watch us play on the playground. And when grandpa took us fishing, he did not seem to mind to be the one doing all the work baiting the line and removing the fish we caught. And my parents spent many nights staying home with us--just being a family. I remember nights sitting around the living room praying the rosary together.

The more we experience of life, the less time we spend being passive, just sitting around with nothing to do. Find things that you enjoy. Take up new hobbies. Expand your horizons and interests. We can make a difference in our lives by recognizing every second we have here on Earth as precious, and then making the most of our gift by being "all here."

Today's Challenge: Approach every task today with full awareness.

Questions to consider:

Do you find it easy to be completely present? Why?

What is the value in learning to live in the moment?

How can we find new things that we are interested in?

For further thought:

One of Dr. Johnson's ingredients of happiness was, "A little less time than you want." That means always to have so many things you want to see, to have, and to do, that no day is quite long enough for all you think you would like to get done before you go to bed.

Can we share some bread? Yes, but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty — it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There’s a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.

Tragic Moment

Just a little food for thought.

God Bless.

In this tragic moment Moses forfeited one of the greatest privileges that could have been his — leading the Israelites into the promised land — because he failed to control his temper, his most obvious character flaw. He ignored what God told him to do to get water. Instead, in anger he did it his way.

Do you have a fatal flaw — one weakness that could undo all your dreams if you give in to it? Most of us do. But by recognizing it and facing it squarely, we can take precautions to prevent ourselves from giving in to it. And we can ask God to help us to avoid the temptations that weaken our resolve.

Praise Him

Something to think about.

God Bless.

Daily Affirmation Devotional

by Christian Channel

Praise Him With Your Whole Heart
Today : Praise Him With Your Whole Heart

TODAY’S VERSE
“Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name.” Psalms 103:1 (NLT)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
What did David know? What had he seen? Was it possible that he knew the difference between ritual and sincere worship? Could he have seen his friends and family, and even himself go through religious motions? Did he feel what Isaiah felt when he wrote, “’This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.” So what did David do? He committed to love God and praise Him with his whole heart. Today, we can do the same. Come to God and love Him with your whole being. Praise Him with your whole heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Dear Father, I come and praise You with all that I am. I come to You with my whole heart. With everything in me, I praise Your holy name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
I praise God from the depth of my being
In quiet meditation come before God. As you sit before Him, let your praise come from deep inside you. See yourself loving Him with all your heart. Sense His love filling you as you thank Him and praise Him with your whole being.

Justice Will Be Done

Amen! Food for thought.

God Bless.

Justice Will Be Done
Devotional by John Piper

Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” (Romans 12:19)

All of you have been wronged at one time or another. Most of you, probably, have been wronged seriously by someone who has never apologized or done anything sufficient to make it right.

And one of the deep hindrances to your letting go of that hurt and bitterness is the conviction — the justified conviction — that justice should be done, that the moral fabric of the universe will unravel if people can just get away with horrible wrongs and deceive everyone.

That is one of the hindrances to forgiveness and letting grudges go. It’s not the only one. We have our own sin to deal with. But it is a real one.

We feel that just to let it go would be to admit that justice simply won’t be done. And we can’t do it.

So we hold on to anger, and play the events or the words over and over again with the feelings: It shouldn’t have happened; it shouldn’t have happened; it was wrong; it was wrong. How can he (or she) be so happy when I am so miserable? It is so wrong. It is so wrong! We can’t let it go. And our bitterness starts to poison everything.

This word in Romans 12:19 is given to us by God to lift that burden from us.

“Never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God.” What does this mean for you?

Laying down the burden of anger, laying down the practice of nursing your hurt with feelings of being wronged — laying that down — does not mean there was no great wrong against you. There was.

But it also does not mean there is no justice. It does not mean you will not be vindicated. It does not mean they just got away with it. No they didn’t.

It means, when you lay down the burden of vengeance, God will pick it up.

This is not a subtle way of getting revenge. This is a way of giving vengeance to the One to whom it belongs. Vengeance is mine, says the Lord. You lay it down. I will pick it up. Justice will be done.

What a glorious relief. I do not have to carry this burden. It is like taking a deep breath, perhaps for the first time in decades, and feeling like now at last you may be free to love.

Luke 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

The word “Saviour” here is “Soter” meaning “presence”. Should we not imitate Mary, the blessed woman, in magnifying our Saviour and rejoicing in the finished work which He wrought in our behalf? It is never what we are, but what He is. Our joy is in Him and we rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory as we face this day with joyful hearts. Don't Go Through Life

Love this.

Be encouraged.

God Bless.

Today's Quotation:

Don't go through life, grow through life.

Eric Butterworth

Today's Meditation:

There is so much to be discovered, so much to be enjoyed, and so much to be shared in life, that it would be a shame to simply let it pass us by. Sure, life will continue to happen, regardless of our attitudes or how involved we are in it, but how drab and boring would such a life be?

We have unlimited potential... all we must do is get involved in life. Read books and learn, accomplish some tasks, take up a new and exciting hobby, exercise, participate in healthy discussions with your peers--expand your horizons. Every time we experience life just a little bit more, we come to recognize the value and importance in it. We make ourselves richer. We make our lives richer. We enhance the beauty and potential of our world and everyone in it.

And do not be afraid to explore a little. There is plenty of room for the finer things in life, but we can also explore some of the average beauty that is available to us each day. Being able to live our life to the fullest is exactly what makes it so special.

Today's Challenge: Spend some time growing today.

Questions to consider:

How often do we concentrate on simply "making it through the day?"

When we expand our horizons to include appreciation for things we might not have noticed before, what happens to our lives?

What are some ways we can actively "grow through life?"

For further thought:

Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world.

Pink Flowers

Wisdom from Joyce.

God Bless.

Joyce Meyer –
1 min read

Pink flowers sitting on an open Bible ready for reading a daily devotional.
Adapted from Quiet Times with God

And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

 John 8:32 (NKJV)
Truth is wonderful. Jesus said it will make us free. But as wonderful as truth is, we must be willing to face it. Truth often shocks us into a reality we may feel unprepared to see, but if God is revealing it, He knows the time is right.

As tough as it might be to face the truth, especially when it requires that we make changes in our lives, it is always better than avoiding it. You will be so glad to live in the freedom and rewards it brings.

We can never get to where we want to be unless we truly face where we are. We must not look to the world to teach us how to live sincere, godly lives, but rather to the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. These are the real sources of truth—truth that will change us, encourage us, instruct us, and set us free.

Prayer of the Day: Lord, give me courage to face truth, even when it’s hard. Help me trust Your Word and Spirit to guide, change, and set me free.

Finding Love

This...

Be encouraged.

God Bless.

Finding Love

We love Him because He first loved us.
- 1 John 4:19, NKJV

Our world is looking for love. As human beings, we need to love and be loved. But we’re looking in all the wrong places. We look for it from a parent,

from a child,

from a spouse,

from a friend,

But our parents grow old and die,

our children grow up and live their own lives,

our spouses are too busy or too tired,

our friends are superficial or selfish.

Who can truly understand the need of the human heart? Who can meet the need of our hearts? Where is love found?

Love is found in the heart of God.

Nothing To Say

Something to think about.

God Bless.

“Nothing to say at Your feet.

And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. Luke 10:39, NKJV.

Sometimes in prayer, I just sit before the Lord. I have nothing to say verbally, yet my heart is speaking volumes. My heart has requests that are beyond what I can articulate what I’m going through. We need the Lord’s help every day, and to sit at His feet and listen for His voice, to be in His presence, is exactly what we need.

Go before the Father in the morning and tell Him you are here. Step away on your lunch break and tell God you came to sit at His feet and hear what He has to say. Sit quietly before Him. Be still and He will remind you that He is God. Don’t allow a lack of words to keep you from spending time with God. When you go before Him, when you bow before Him or lift your hands, and even as you cry, you are in His presence, and the Lord will show up right where you are, and He will minister mightily to your life.

Prayer: Father, thank you that I can come before You. I sit before You right now. Even when I don’t have the words to say, hear my heart. No matter where I am, help me to be still and spend time before you. Thank you for your faithfulness to minister to me today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

It can be easy to forget that morality is the basic foundation upon which all walks of life are built. Doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, politicians, laborers, office workers, researchers, writers--every profession requires it. Yet how often is it stressed in our schools, at home, throughout society? Not often enough... of that I am sure.

As Mark points out, we are not born with morals. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that they are taught to our younger generations. We must put them on display in our own lives so that our children might acquire them during the course of their upbringing. Life is like that. We do not run before we can walk, and we do not walk before we can crawl. But crawling allows us to develop motor skills that will help us to walk, and months of practicing our walking allow us to start running. Likewise, years of teaching young people important lessons about morality and compassion and love and empathy and money management and trustworthiness can help that person to shine when he or she reaches the stage of being a professional. Those are the traits that will set us apart when others get to know us, not just as doctors or lawyers or police officers or administrative assistants, but us as human beings.

Children need us to teach them compassion and love, empathy and caring, honesty and integrity, generosity and sharing, and things of the like. Spend time acquiring a solid base of morality, and then share that with those around you. Providing a solid base for our children is one of the greatest gifts we can give them in life, and being a positive moral example is perhaps the best way of helping them become the person they were meant to be.

Today's Challenge: Help share morality with others today, even if simply by example.

Questions to consider:

What are some morals you have acquired throughout your life? What are some you have taught or shared with others?

What have you done lately to make yourself capable and sensible?

Why is it difficult for some of us to recognize, accept, and appreciate our humanity?

For further thought:

To educate a man in mind and not in morals is to educate a menace to society.

Theodore Roosevelt

All Problems

Leaving this here.

God Bless.

Today's Quotation:

All problems become smaller if you don't dodge them, but confront them. Touch a thistle timidly, and it pricks you; grasp it boldly and its spines crumble.

William S. Halsey

Today's Meditation:

How often do we find ourselves avoiding conflict? How often do we share such misguided direction with others? If we live our life trying to avoid the common problems and the pitfalls that typically befall us--making as few mistakes as possible and trying to live our lives in a way that is as easy and trouble free as possible--we will find ourselves being "pricked" by the thistles of life. Sure life can cause us pain, discomfort, and even agony, but when we refuse to take on our problems and confront them with the determination to overcome them and grow, we allow them to grow.

William's metaphor is a wonderful way of looking at the problems we face in life. True they may cause us pain or discomfort. But if we refuse to deal with them, they grow. And if we pull back at the slightest feeling of discomfort, we allow them to continue to control us.

Many individuals become disillusioned because they expect life to be easy and fun. Of course, problems become the bane of their existence, as they become dreadful of mistakes, unpleasantness, and difficulty. Those of us who are successful and thrive in life are the ones who confront their problems, the ones who "grasp them boldly" until their ability to cause us pain is diminished and gone.

Life will be filled with flowers... but it will also have its thistles. It is up to us to decide how we wish to deal with them when we encounter them: either timidly touching them and shirking away in pain, or confronting them boldly, and rendering them harmless in our grasp.

Today's Challenge: Confront all problems you are faced with today.

Questions to consider:

Why do we try to avoid the problems in our life?

Are you at your best when faced with adversity, or when the times are easy?

How can you ensure that you learn all that there is to learn from the difficulties in your life?

For further thought:

I have always found that each step we take in life is to be regretted--if we once begin to wonder how many other steps might have been possible.

Three Things

Amen!

Be encouraged.

God Bless.

"Three things will last forever - faith, hope, and love - and the greatest of these is love." -1 Corinthians 13:13

"The greatest of these may be love, but don't underestimate the power of hope. When we are in our deepest depths of despair, it is hope that keeps us going when it's hard to get out of bed. Have you lost sight of our hope? Our hope is everlasting. Our hope is full of grace. Our hope is in Christ Jesus. "

Launch Out

Some food for thought.

God Bless.

Morning and Evening Daily Devotional by C.H. Spurgeon

“Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.”

Luke 5:4

We learn from this narrative, the necessity of human agency. The draught of fishes was miraculous, yet neither the fisherman nor his boat, nor his fishing tackle were ignored; but all were used to take the fishes. So in the saving of souls, God worketh by means; and while the present economy of grace shall stand, God will be pleased by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe. When God worketh without instruments, doubtless he is glorified; but he hath himself selected the plan of instrumentality as being that by which he is most magnified in the earth. Means of themselves are utterly unavailing. “Master, we have toiled all the night and have taken nothing.” What was the reason of this? Were they not fishermen plying their special calling? Verily, they were no raw hands; they understood the work. Had they gone about the toil unskilfully? No. Had they lacked industry? No, they had toiled. Had they lacked perseverance? No, they had toiled all the night. Was there a deficiency of fish in the sea? Certainly not, for as soon as the Master came, they swam to the net in shoals. What, then, is the reason? Is it because there is no power in the means of themselves apart from the presence of Jesus? “Without him we can do nothing.” But with Christ we can do all things. Christ’s presence confers success. Jesus sat in Peter’s boat, and his will, by a mysterious influence, drew the fish to the net. When Jesus is lifted up in his Church, his presence is the Church’s power—the shout of a king is in the midst of her. “I, if I be lifted up, will draw all men unto me.” Let us go out this morning on our work of soul fishing, looking up in faith, and around us in solemn anxiety. Let us toil till night comes, and we shall not labour in vain, for he who bids us let down the net, will fill it with fishes.

God Isn't Gloomy

Love this one!

God Bless.

God Isn’t Gloomy
Devotional by John Piper

The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations. (Psalm 33:10–11)

“Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases” (Psalm 115:3). The implication of this text is that God has the right and power to do whatever makes him happy. That is what it means to say that God is sovereign.

Think about it for a moment: If God is sovereign and can do anything he pleases, then none of his purposes can be frustrated. “The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; he frustrates the plans of the peoples. The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the plans of his heart to all generations” (Psalm 33:10–11).

And if none of his purposes can be frustrated, then he must be the happiest of all beings.

This infinite, divine happiness is the fountain from which the Christian (Hedonist) drinks and longs to drink more deeply.

Can you imagine what it would be like if the God who ruled the world were not happy? What if God were given to grumbling and pouting and depression, like some Jack-and-the-beanstalk giant in the sky? What if God were frustrated and despondent and gloomy and dismal and discontented and dejected?

Could we join David and say, “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water” (Psalm 63:1)? I don’t think so.

We would all relate to God like little children who have a frustrated, gloomy, dismal, discontented father. They can’t enjoy him. They can only try not to bother him, or maybe try to work for him to earn some little favor.

But that is not the way God is. He is never out of sorts with frustration or discouragement. And, as Psalm 147:11 says, he “takes pleasure . . . in those who hope in his steadfast love.” So the aim of the Christian Hedonist is not to avoid this God, not to run from him, or tiptoe through the living room lest his gloominess become anger. No, our aim is to hope in his steadfast love. To run to him. To be happy in God, to delight in God, to cherish and enjoy his fellowship and favor.

Sometimes God

This.

Be encouraged.

God Bless.

Today's Quotation:

Sometimes God does not change your situation, because He is trying to change your heart.

Unknown

Today's Meditation:

There were times in my life in which I came to God asking and praying for a specific outcome to a situation and my desired result never did happen. This, of course, left me feeling let down and questioning why God did not answer me. But as time went on, I began to realize that perhaps God did answer me and I was simply not listening. You see, by not getting what I had hoped for, I had been given the chance to gain something else that was essential for my personal growth--perseverance, integrity, faith, hope, humility, and so much more. It seems that nearly every time I have felt that I know what I need, I discover that not only can I manage without receiving it exactly as I have asked for it, but that I have been given an opportunity to discover something necessary for my journey through life.

Listening to God in our lives requires us to spend time in solitude and prayer listening to our hearts. More importantly, it requires us to have trust and faith in our loving Creator and His plans for us. But because we are human, this can be incredibly difficult--we have flaws such as the inclination to be quite stubborn, to listen to our worries and fears, or to desire to be in control of our lives. But when we are stubborn, we do a poor job of listening to what others are telling us. And when we start to entertain our worries and fears, or attempt to control our lives, we miss out on so much of what God is saying to us through those trials and difficulties? What if He is asking us to grow? What if He is challenging us to become something greater?

There will be things we must face that are difficult and challenge us--the loss of a loved one, financial struggles, loss of a job, relationship issues. But these are also opportunities for us to grow, to become better husbands and wives, to become more compassionate human beings because we understand the pain of loss, to become better than the person we were yesterday.

Today's Challenge: Face your challenges today with an open and willing heart.

Questions to consider:

Can you think of a recent situation in which you did not get what you asked for? What was the outcome?

What kind of personal growth did you experience?

How has your heart changed over the course of your life?

For further thought:

We believe we can change things according to our wishes because that's the only happy solution we can see. We don't think of what usually happens and what is also a happy solution: things don't change, but by and by our wishes change.

Don't Feed Your Mind

This inspired me and may it inspire you.

God Bless.

Today's Quotation:

Don't feed your mind with negative thoughts. If you do, you will come to believe them.

Catherine Pulsifer

Today's Meditation:

There are those times in our lives in which our minds become fixated with negative thoughts--anger, jealousy, envy, hate, loneliness, gloominess. And it truly does seem that the more we feed our minds with negativity, the more we come to believe them. We essentially substantialize our feelings by filling our minds with negativity and embracing it in our lives.

Most of us wear our emotions, attitudes, and feelings each day just as we would put on clothes to wear. If I take a moment to observe others around me, I most likely will be able to see their positivity or negativity in the interactions they have with others, or in their voices and body language. That is because we choose how we approach each day of our lives. And this is an important realization, for it empowers us to determine how our experiences here on Earth will be. Personally, I do not want to spend my day walking around filled with anger or stress, as I am sure that would be extremely unhealthy and unpleasant for me.

It is normal, however, that negative thoughts should enter into our minds from time to time. But we must work to not let them stay there for an extended period of time. And having a positive anchor is a great way to overcome them. Whenever negativity starts to overwhelm us, we can reflect on this positive anchor to bring us back to where we want to be.

What are you feeding your mind with today? Positive thoughts that will help to create a more positive experience... or negative ones, which definitely are not helpful and serve only to add stress and negativity to your life? If you can get in the habit of dwelling on positive thoughts, you will find that the lives around you, as well as your own, have become a much richer experience.

Today's Challenge: Pay careful attention to what you feed your mind today.

Questions to consider:

In what ways do negative thoughts tend to become destructive?

How can you practice shifting negative thoughts to positive ones?

What are some of the positive anchors in your life?

For further thought:

When you are offended or annoyed by others, do not allow your thoughts to dwell on them or on anything relating to them. For example, don't think that they ought not to have treated you so, being who they are, or whom they think themselves to be, or the like. All this is fuel and kindling of wrath, anger, and hatred.

"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. (NLT)" -James 4:10

"God’s word is full of beautiful promises! James 4:10 is a promise that if we come before God with humility then he will lift us up. When we realize we cannot succeed on our own and that you need God in every moment, it is then that God can enter our lives and begin to do great work on our behalf. Invite God to use your life for his purposes. Trust Him and he will carry through even the most challenging of seasons."

You Are The Light

Leaving this here. Food for thought? Yes, indeed.

God Bless.

"You are the light of the world - like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden."" (NLT)" -Matthew 5:14"

Jesus' death on the cross and His subsequent rise is wonderful news. With this comes the hope that we, too, can join Christ where there is no more pain and suffering. Until that day, we must show the world the light that Jesus brings to us. Yes, it can become tiring and can be a heavy burden to bear, but, oh what a joy it is to carry the torch that brings light to so many others."

Adapted from Hearing from God Each Morning

If you will turn (repent) and give heed to my reproof, behold, I [Wisdom] will pour out my spirit upon you, I will make my words known to you.

 Proverbs 1:23 (AMPC)
We need to pray and obey God's leading when He speaks to us. Obedience is not to be an occasional event for us; it is to be our way of life. There's a big difference between people who are willing to obey God daily and those who are only willing to obey to get out of trouble. God certainly shows people how to get out of trouble, but He bestows abundant blessings on those who decide to live wholeheartedly for Him and who make obedience to Him their lifestyle. The only pathway to true peace is obedience to God.

Many people obey God in the big issues, but they aren't aware that obedience in the little things makes a difference in His plan for their lives. The Bible says plainly that if we are not faithful in the little things, we will never be made rulers over much (see Luke 16:10). There is no reason for God to trust us with a major responsibility if we are not going to be faithful to do the little things He has asked us to do. I strongly urge you to be obedient to God even in the smallest of things. A sixteenth-century monk called Brother Lawrence was well known for walking continually in the presence of God. He said that He was pleased to pick up a piece of trash from the ground in obedience to God and because He loved Him.

In the verse for today, God says He will make known His words to us if we listen to Him when He corrects us. If we follow His guidance and are pleased to do each little thing He asks of us then He will open His wisdom to us, and we will have more revelation than we could ever imagine.

Prayer of the Day: Lord, help me obey Your voice daily, in both big and small things. Cause my life to reflect a heart that seeks to please You in every action and decision.

The Greatest

This is such an encouraging devotional.

God Bless.

The greatest of these is charity. - 1 Cor 13:13

Love is the greatest of all the Spirit’s gifts.

The ability to love is the best power God has given us. This chapter teaches us about love in words we should remember always. “Love is patient and kind.” Love is endlessly patient, even with those who are thoughtless or difficult.

Love is never bitter or resentful. It is kind, not only to those who are good but also to those who are unkind. “Love does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud, it does not dishonor others.” Love is humble, not envious of those who seem to have more. It remains calm, never getting angry or behaving rudely. “Love is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.”

Love forgets about itself and focuses on others. It sees the good in people, not their faults. It doesn’t celebrate when others fail but rejoices in their success. It bears all things, endures all things, and never fails.

Mind Of Christ

Just going to leave this right here.

God Bless.

You Have the Mind of Christ
Joyce Meyer –
1 min read

Bible open on a desk ready for reading a daily devotional.
Adapted from Ending Your Day Right

…We have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart.

 1 Corinthians 2:16 (AMPC)
The Bible clearly tells you that as a Christian you have the mind of Christ. Why, then, do you experience times when you feel like you’re on an emotional roller coaster? Romans 8 teaches that you also have a mind of the flesh, which causes you to think, say, feel, and do things that make you unproductive.

That’s why it’s important to recognize your feelings are not reliable. You must choose to go deeper than your feelings and live by what you know deep in your heart.

If you sometimes feel your mind is lost in a maze of confusion, it’s time to give up the mind of the flesh and operate in the mind of Christ. It is an exchange that will lead you out of frustration and into victorious Christian living.

Prayer of the Day: Lord, help me reject the confusion of fleshly thinking and live with the mind of Christ. Teach me to trust Your truth above my ever-changing feelings, amen.

God Lifts You Up

Something to think about.

God Bless.

God Lifts You Up

As you survey your life, what situation seems most hopeless to you?

Now consider this: When Absalom tried to steal the throne from his father, David may have thought his reign was over. But rather than surrender to his enemies or listen to all the naysayers, David threw himself into the strong arms of God. In his prayer recorded in Psalm 3, David acknowledged the Lord as the ultimate source of protection, honor and restoration.

It’s not just a neat historical anecdote. It’s a promise. God wants to meet us in the depths and raise us to the heights. Trust him to be your shield.

God’s Promise to Me
*I am your shield.

*I am your glory.

*I am the one who lifts your head high.

My Prayer to God
You are a shield about me, Lord. Keep me from faithlessly and foolishly thinking that my life or my future is in jeopardy. You are my glory and the one who lifts my head.

God Wants

Some food for thought.

God Bless.

Today's Quotation:

God wants to use you to make other people happy! And the happier you make others, the happier you will be because you reap what you sow.

Joyce Meyer

Today's Meditation:

The contributions I make to the world around me have a direct effect on the happiness that I experience in life. When I make others happy, I increase the joy and happiness within my own life. Even more, by making others happy I serve God within others, complimenting and strengthening my own relationship with Him, opening the door to a greater understanding of my purpose in life.

The good I do for others opens the door to allow the greater forces of kindness, love, and compassion to work their wonders in the world around me. It changes the very dynamic of life--my relationships with others grow deeper and stronger, the peace within me becomes lasting, and my wisdom and understanding becomes a more permanent fixture in my life.

How we live our lives is up to us. But it is important to remember that how we live our lives also determines a lot of what we will reap in life. Sow happiness, and you will reap happiness. Sow hurt and discontent and you will reap that as well.

Today's Challenge: Bring happiness to those you meet today.

Questions to consider:

What do you sow the most of in this world? Do you seem to get equal parts back?

How can you go about getting your life in tune with the more positive forces?

What are some things that you can sow for the benefit of others?

For further thought:

We are close to God when we are close to people. If we think of God as something in favor of the betterment of human beings, and if we act in a way that brings about that betterment--if we do not cling to riches, selfishness, or greed--then I believe we are getting closer to God.

Every Adversity

Inspiration below? You been the judge.

God Bless.

Today's Quotation:

Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of a greater or equal benefit.

Napoleon Hill

Today's Meditation:

It is refreshing to know that within each form of adversity, failure, and heartache I encounter, lies the "seed of a greater or equal benefit." It is a perfect reminder that there is good in everything--all we must do is water it, nurture it, and allow that good to grow and flourish in our lives and the world around us.

Adversity, failure, and heartache do not have to be an end result. If we make it so, we miss out on the lessons, opportunities, chances, signs and clues, and many other important elements that are being given to us. Maybe I did not get the job I was interviewing for because I need to increase and expand my knowledge in this specific field. Or perhaps my recent relationship with a girl failed because I did not understand her need for positive reinforcement. If I am able to plant, nurture, and harvest the beneficial seeds found in the difficult and painful lessons of my life, I will bring forth goodness and love as well as unlock my potential for personal growth.

Our failures and obstacles in life are but stepping-stones to becoming something greater along our way. And our greatest achievements in life will assuredly be the result of many failures, heartaches, and adversity that has built us up and reinforced us along the way. But the beauty of failure cannot be seen unless we acknowledge that it is possible for failure to be both beautiful and important.

Today's Challenge: Plant a few beneficial seeds found in some of your failures.

Questions to consider:

How do you view adversity, failure, and heartache in your life? What kinds of things have contributed to this perspective?

Why do we often see failure as something that is exclusively negative?

Do you encourage others to find positive benefits from their failures, and then turn around and fail to see the positive benefits in your own failures?

For further thought:

Don't be afraid to fail. Don't waste energy trying to cover up failure. Learn from your failures and go on to the next challenge. It's ok to fail. If you're not failing, you're not growing.

Sowing And Reaping

Joyce Meyer –

Adapted from Quiet Times with God

…Whatever a man sows, this and this only is what he will reap.

 Galatians 6:7 (AMP)
The Word of God plainly tells us that we will reap what we sow. This principle applies to every area of our lives, including the way we treat others. Our attitudes and words are seeds we sow each day that determine what kind of fruit or harvest we’ll have in our relationships. The devil loves to keep us busy thinking selfishly, sowing words of strife in our families, and thinking negatively about others. He wants us to sow bad seed.

Let me ask you: What are you sowing today? With God’s help, make the choice to sow love, forgiveness, kindness, and patience in every relationship and situation. You’ll find that as you treat others the way God wants you to, you will reap a life filled with encouraging, godly relationships.

Prayer of the Day: Lord, help me sow seeds of love, kindness, and grace each day. May my words and actions reflect Your heart and lead to healthy, godly relationships in every area of life.

On Me Alone

On Me Alone

I am your Lord, your Supply. You must rely on Me. Trust to the last uttermost limit. Trust and be not afraid. You must depend on Divine Power only. I have not forgotten you. Your help is coming. You shall know and realize My Power.

Endurance is faith tried almost to breaking point. You must wait, and trust, and hope, and joy in Me. You must not depend on man but on Me, on Me, your Strength, your Help, your Supply.

This is the great test. Am I your supply or not? Every great work for Me has had to have this great test-time.Possess your souls in patience and rejoice. You must wait until I show the way. Heaven itself cannot contain more joy than that soul knows, when, after the waiting-test, I crown it Victor, but no disciple of Mine can be victor, who does not wait until I give the order to start. You cannot be anxious if you know that I am your supply.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:4

Quote of the Day -Joyce Meyer

“Worry does no good and can impact your life in negative ways. I’m sure you have noticed how absolutely powerless you feel when you worry or you’re anxious and troubled, because worry is indeed completely useless. It is a waste of time and energy because it never changes your circumstances.”

Your Enemy

Something to think about.

God Bless.

Mornings With God

Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth? - Gal 4:16

Paul didn’t have an easy time with the Galatian Christians. They were inconsistent and hard to deal with. One day they would have done anything for him, the next they were angry at him.

“You welcomed me as if I were an angel… I can testify that if you could have, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.” But then he adds, “Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth?” They couldn’t handle correction.

Yet Paul remained faithful in his care for them, always seeking to do them good.

This is how we must treat others, too. We should love them not only when they love us, but also when they’re upset with us for being honest. That’s how Christ loves and teaches us—He is always patient and never stops helping us.

The Smallest Act

This...

God Bless.

Today's Quotation:

The smallest act of kindness is worth more than the greatest intention.

Kahlil Gibran

Today's Meditation:

I generally have the best of intentions for others in life, but sometimes fail to act upon them when the need arises. Sometimes I find myself missing opportunities to help others because my focus is elsewhere. Sometimes I find myself too occupied with other things to concern myself with others... even for a short while. Then there are those times when I am aware, but choose to pass the opportunity by. Kahlil is talking about these times.

How many times have I seen someone pulled over on the side of the road and I continued past because I felt I could not afford to spend the time offering assistance? Perhaps I do not possess the knowledge or ability to offer any help that would fix their problem, however, the simple act of me stopping and asking is something that does make a difference. It shows a level of caring, compassion, and concern in my fellow man that goes on to strengthen the beautiful bonds that we all share.

I may intend to help others; I may wish for goodness and happiness in their lives; I may even spend time reflecting about how I can be a better person. But it is through putting my kindness into action, even on the smallest of levels, that I serve to make a difference in the lives of others and lay bare my true potential.

Be aware of the needs of others. Chances are that there are people around you right now that are in need of your help and kindness. Perhaps a door needs opening; maybe a heart needs healing; maybe tears need a shoulder to fall upon; maybe that lonely face simply needs an assuring smile to let them know they matter. If we keep our eyes open and help in the littlest of ways, person by person, we will brighten the entire world around us.

Today's Challenge: Carry out some small acts of kindness throughout the day.

Questions to consider:

How do you tend to feel when someone else offers you help in a sincere, caring way?

How many chances will you have to help someone else today, even in very small ways?

What are some specific ways you might be able to offer help to others?

For further thought:

The more often he feels without acting, the less he will be able ever to act, and, in the long run, the less he will be able to feel.

C.S. Lewis, The Screwtape Letters
