The rich and the poor have this in common, the Lord is the maker of them all.
Daily Bible Study
God is the creator of all people, both rich and poor! This means all people are important in the eyes of Jesus, because we were all made in the image of God. When we have a large amount of wealth we can forget it's God who brought the blessings. And because of that we can sin by believing that we're somehow special or better than others. In addition, our wealth can cause others to sin as they show favoritism. People will show special favor to those who have wealth in order to receive any sort of compensation for their favoritism. Why is this sin? Because both the poor and the rich are equally God's creation, both are made in the image of God and both are equal in the eyes of God. Moreover, all followers of Christ are called to use our time, talents and resources to help those in need and further the spread of the Gospel of Christ.
This means all people rich and poor have an equal responsibility to help others in whatever ministry God has called them to. This includes the simplest of things such as friendship and exhortation. This also includes the feeding and clothing of those who are without and in need. And most importantly spreading the Good News of salvation through faith alone in Jesus alone. And lastly, while being wealthy is not a sin, we can sin when we have wealth. We do so when we covet more wealth and become greedy, failing to remember God has blessed us so we can bless others through our wealth. God never meant to give us blessings in order that we keep them only to ourselves. And while there is nothing wrong with wealth, it's really a matter of the heart and how we view it and how we use it in light of our faith in Christ. Therefore, every person must remember all people will give an account to the Lord, for what we did with what He gave us and how we used the time, talents and resources He provided to us.
