Pray Before Answering

The way of the Lord written below. Sometimes it's too simple but we make it so difficult because all we can see is the present.

Thank God, Jesus look ahead and saw how stupid we would become in the way's of the world and thank God for Jesus' willingness to see things through so let's live it.

God Bless.

Pray before Answering

by Joyce Meyer

For [of course] I will not venture (presume) to speak thus of any work except what Christ has actually done through me [as an instrument in His hands] to win obedience from the Gentiles, by word and deed.
—Romans 15:18

The Father has sent to us a Counselor— the Spirit of Truth—who teaches us all things (See John 14:16,17,26). As we stay sensitive to God’s leading, He will direct us. If we pray before speaking, the Lord will keep us from overcommitting our time, and from misleading people.
Jesus took time to listen to the Father before speaking. God will also give us “a word in due season” for somebody (See Proverbs 15:23), if we listen for His input before we give what we may think is a right answer. God will give us the right words to say, if we expectantly listen for His direction before we speak.

Don't Judge Another Man's Servant

So much good insight into a life of a Christian walk.
The info is here for you to digest and seek out the Lord. Isn't that the sole purpose of this sort of thing? I think so.
God Bless.
Don’t Judge Another Man’s Servant
by Gloria Copeland
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.”
Proverbs 6:16-19 If you’ve made a commitment to keep strife out of your home, you may have noticed a new frontline battle: more pressure than ever to get in strife in your church! Maybe the devil has provoked someone to be rude to you and hurt your feelings. Or maybe he made sure you found out about something someone else did wrong, and then you talked about it to others. When he presents you with those opportunities, turn him down—fast! Treat that temptation to gossip and stir up strife like you would a poisonous snake, because in the eyes of God, participating in strife in the Church is one of the most serious of sins (Proverbs 6:16-19). God considers stirring up strife such a grave sin that He lists it alongside murder and lying. So stay away from it. Ask God to reveal to you if you’ve entered into strife inadvertently. He may remind you of a time you passed along some gossip or criticized the pastor. If He does, repent, and be more conscious of those things in the future. Determine in your heart that from now on, if you see your brother sin, you’ll believe God for him and pray for him instead of perpetuating that brother’s problem by talking to everyone about it. I realize sometimes that seems extremely difficult to do. But here’s something that will help you. When you’re tempted to get in strife by judging a fellow believer, remember Romans 14:4 and ask yourself, “Who art thou that judgest another man’s servant?” The devil will try to push you into making a decision about that person, to say whether he’s guilty or not guilty. But don’t give in to that pressure. It’s not your job to judge others. (Isn’t that a relief?)
First Corinthians 4:5 says, “Judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.” If you’re in a church where the pastor has done wrong, and you feel you don’t want to follow him, that’s fine. I don’t blame you. Leave that church and go to one with a pastor you can trust and respect. But do it quietly. Don’t sow discord before you go. Most important of all, wherever you go, be sure to go in love. Go in love and guard diligently against strife. When you do, you will keep your faith strong and your blessings out of the devil’s hands. Walk in love and you will always live in victory! Speak the Word “I determine to walk in love. I do not sow discord among the brethren for that is an abomination to God.” —Proverbs 6:16, 19

A Good Kind Of Burden

Words to live by....

God Bless

A Good Kind of Burden

by Joyce Meyer

Graciously consider the prayer and supplication of Your servant, O Lord my God, to hearken to the [loud] cry and prayer which he prays before You today.
—1 Kings 8:28

Sometimes, as you are praying for others, you will get what some call a prayer burden, or an intercessory burden. A burden is something that comes to your heart and feels weighty and important; it is something God is asking you to carry in prayer; it is something you cannot shake. Sometimes God may speak to you and explain the burden to you. At other times you do not even know what the burden is or you do not fully understand it; you only know that you have to pray.
Some people are called to pray a lot for certain things. My husband prays a lot for America. I know people who pray for Israel all the time. One woman told me she prayed for veterans returning from war. I believe God has every need in the world covered. We don’t all need to pray for the same thing because, if we did, all the needs would not be taken care of. Pay attention to what God is placing on your heart and pray for that.
One of the ways God speaks to us is through giving us burdens for others. He does this often without words, but by a sense of weightiness and concern for people in our hearts. When this happens, He is asking us to pray for them. Pay attention to the burdens He gives you and be faithful to pray when He is asking you to do so.
God's word for you today: As you pray for others, remember that God also has someone praying for you.

Preach...With True Boldness

Boldness something most of us lack in certain situations especially where God is concerned.
And if you are like me, you need all the encouragement you can get just to say you believe in Christ.
But I guess, no, I know, that if I want to be used more I need boldness of the Godly kind.
So of course, when I came across this little devotional, I sucked it up like Johnny-Be-Good and it is my hope, you will find it as helpful as I have.
God Bless.
Preach...With True Boldness!
by Kenneth Copeland
“Now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word.” Acts 4:29
Have you ever noticed that miracles most often occur among people who are bold about God? Boldness and the miraculous are so closely tied together that some people “try” to act bold just to get things to happen. Of course, it doesn’t work. I’ve seen people pray just as loud as they could in a restaurant just to prove they were bold about God, and all they did was irritate everyone in the place. Yet someone with true boldness can do the same thing and great power will be released. Smith Wigglesworth had that kind of boldness. I have a friend who was with him one day in London in a cafeteria.
Before Mr. Wigglesworth sat down to eat, he looked around and in his powerful, booming voice he said, “I didn’t notice anybody praying over this meal and giving God thanks.” Then he began to pray. Everyone in there dropped their fork and bowed their head. When he got through, people all over the room said, “Amen!” Mr. Wigglesworth’s prayer brought that whole cafeteria to a standstill because he had boldness from God. Most people hear that and say, “Oh, I could never be that bold.” But let me tell you, if you’re a believer and you have a Bible—you can be! To find out the secret behind real spiritual boldness, read Acts 4. In that chapter, the boldness of God came on an entire congregation of believers. It didn’t happen by chance. It wasn’t an unexplainable “faith accident.” Boldness came on those people for a specific reason because of a specific thing, and it came in answer to a specific prayer. Here’s the situation. Peter and John had ministered healing to the cripple at the gate called Beautiful. That miracle had so stirred the city that the Jewish religious leaders had taken them into custody and threatened them severely, charging them never to preach in the Name of Jesus again in Jerusalem.
And the first thing the congregation did was start praising God. They’d just been threatened by the local authorities, but they went to the Higher Authority. They went straight to the King of kings and Lord of lords! Then, in verse 29 they asked for boldness to speak the Word! These believers didn’t major on the threats. They majored on the Word. Every word they prayed came from the written Word. We can learn something from that. When there’s a threat, preach the Word. When there is sickness, preach the Word. When there is lack, preach the Word. When the devil comes on the scene, preach the Word! Preach the Word in season and out! And when you preach it, preach it with boldness! Speak the Word “God grants me boldness so that I can speak His Word.” —Acts 4:29

Jesus Lives In You

No truer word's than Jesus lives in us.
The problem is most of the time we have trouble believing it. Here is a little reminder to keep our thought process on course.
Be encouraged. For there is no one greater He than that lives within us.
God Bless.
Jesus Lives in You!
by Gloria Copeland
“Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his [God’s] saints: To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.” Colossians 1:26-27
I’m always looking for revelations from God that will change my life, aren’t you? Divine insights that will take me to new levels of life and glory. A few years ago, God gave me just such a revelation. It was so vast that I’ve been meditating on it ever since. I can tell it to you in five words: Jesus Christ lives in me. “But, Gloria,” you say, “that’s no big revelation. All Christians know that!” No, they don’t. Oh, they may know it with their heads, but not with their hearts. If they did, the Church today would be an entirely different Church, so full of the glory of God that sinners would be beating down our doors to get in and get saved.
We would be a Church where miracles and healings were not unusual, but commonplace. A Church so full of the grace of God that even worldly people would wonder at the power of God in our lives. Paul describes in Ephesians 5:27, “a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but...holy and without blemish.” Praise God, as born-again believers, we have the hope of glory! That means we can confidently expect the fullness of God’s manifest presence in our lives. We don’t have to just wish for it or read about other people who have experienced it. We can live in God’s glory ourselves. We can do this because Jesus, the Anointed One, the Lord of glory Himself, lives inside every one of us! I want you to think about it. Let the thrilling reality of it start to sink into your heart. Let it begin to dawn on you that Jesus, the Anointed One—not just Jesus as He was when He walked on the earth 2,000 years ago, but the glorified, resurrected Jesus—really lives inside you! Speak the Word “The Anointed One and His Anointing lives in me. He is my hope and expectation of glory!” —Colossians 1:27

Eternally With You

Be encouraged my friend. After reading this little devotional, my hope is you will know without a shadow of a doubt that God truly loves you and wants to spend eternity with you.
Believe you me, He is worth every thing you may be going through for it is not lost on Him.
Eternity doing it His way is so much better than the alternative.
God Bless.
Eternally With You
We’ve talked at great length about the wilderness being a place where we feel as though God is no longer interested or active in our wait. As far as we can tell, He’s abandoned us. That’s just not true.
Take this to the bank and deposit it for safekeeping: God is always present with you. This characteristic of God is defined as being omnipresent. It’s a big Bible word we can add to our vocabulary and retrieve when abandonment issues tiptoe into our thought life. Turn the corner of this page down and put a large star by this sentence: Omnipresent means always present; everywhere at the same time.
Now, when you feel abandoned, remember to come back here and remind yourself that God is constantly, forever, eternally with you. He is never not with me. He is never not with you. (English majors and grammar police, please don’t email me about the double negatives.) He is next to us in our wilderness, even if we don’t see Him at work. Whoa! I just blew my own mind. Even though we feel abandoned by God, we aren’t. God didn’t abandon Abraham and Sarah. God didn’t abandon the Israelites. God has not and will not abandon you. Try singing these words to the tune of “Jesus Loves Me, This I Know”: “God is with me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so. Though His presence I can’t see, God will not abandon me. Yes, God is with me. Yes, God is with me. Yes, God is with me. The Bible tells me so.” God didn’t abandon David. He roamed in and out of caves and strongholds. He dodged arrows at the dinner table and fled from the king’s army.
For over fifteen years, he wandered and waited for his appointing. But David’s wait did come to an end. We know we’re waiting well when we truly experience peace in God’s pauses and plans. The peace is demonstrated in the resting of our thoughts and actions. Our real focus becomes a deep and abiding relationship with the Person of our faith, rather than manipulating our circumstances to receive the object of our wait. David waited well by focusing on God, not the problems, the people, or the palace.

Graded With Grace

With Easter upon us, we not only need to be thankful for what Jesus did for us but also we need to be reminded of His grace for without it, what Jesus did on the cross will be for nothing.
God Bless.
Graded with Grace
My son’s bright eyes sparkled with excitement as he showed me a paper he had brought home from school. It was a math test, marked with a red star and a grade of 100 percent. As we looked at the exam, he said he had three questions left to answer when the teacher said time was up. Puzzled, I asked how he could have received a perfect score. He replied, “My teacher gave me grace. She let me finish the test although I had run out of time.” As my son and I discussed the meaning of grace, I pointed out that God has given us more than we deserve through Christ. We deserve death because of our sin (Romans 3:23). Yet, “while we were still sinners” Christ died for us (5:8). Jesus—sinless and holy—gave up His life so we could escape the penalty for our sin and one day live forever in heaven. Eternal life is a gift from God. It’s not something we earn by working for it. We are saved by God’s grace, through faith in Christ (Ephesians 2:8–9).

The Resurrection: Frightening News

Happy Easter! Remember Jesus is the reason for the season!
God Bless.
The Resurrection: Frightening News
Scripture Reading: Matthew 28:1-10 The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” - Matthew 28:5-6
When an angel appeared to someone, it was usually a frightening event—but the Easter angel really shook things up. He caused an earthquake when he opened Jesus’ tomb—not to let him out but to show that the tomb was empty. The Roman guards were scared stiff by the quake. The angel, however, urged the witnesses to spread the good news that Jesus had risen from the dead! It’s likely that both the earthquake and the angel’s appearance frightened the women who had come to the tomb. The angel had to calm their fears so that they’d hear him: “I know that you are looking for Jesus. . . . He has risen.” Easter’s new life collides with Good Friday’s deadly cruelty! Remember the horror of that day? The resurrection of Christ is earth-shaking news. Fear of the Lord is appropriate, along with life-changing joy. “Come and see the place where he lay,” the angel said. “Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead.’” The witnesses saw and went and told, and witnesses have been telling ever since. Today, 2,000 years later, we also see, and we also must proclaim, “He has risen!” And if that news is fearsome, we’ve got it right. Prayer: Hallelujah! You, Lord Christ, are risen from the dead. Restore to us the joy of your salvation even though we have long known the rest of the story—because it’s true! In your name, Amen.

Say Thank You

I know it isn't Thanksgiving time but we should live a life full of thanksgiving all day, everyday.

Thanksgiving should be just as important as taking our next breath.

God Bless and remember to be thankful.

God Bless.

Say “Thank You”

by Joyce Meyer

O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!
—1 Chronicles 16:34

Thanksgiving should be a regular part of our lives. It is something that creates an atmosphere where God can speak; it is a type of prayer, and it should flow out of us in a natural way that is pure and easy. We can take time each evening and thank God for the things He helped us with that day, but we should also continually breathe out simple prayers of thanksgiving every time we see Him working in our lives or blessing us. We might say, “Lord, thank You for a good night’s sleep,” or “God, I thank You that my visit to the dentist didn’t hurt as much as I thought it might,” or “Father, thank You for helping me make good decisions today,” or “Lord, thank You for keeping me encouraged.”
God is always good to us, always faithful, and always working diligently in our lives to help us in every possible way. We need to respond by letting Him know we appreciate Him and everything He is doing for us. We should thank God silently in our hearts and we should also voice our thankfulness aloud because that helps us stay conscious and aware of God’s love, which He demonstrates through His goodness to us.
God’s word for you today: Thank God for twenty things today before you ask Him for anything.

Punished For Our Peace

The reason for the season is upon us and just remember, we have a redeemer who bought back the peace we need for our lives.

Be blessed and live in gratefulness for He has done so much for you and for me.

Punished for Our Peace
Jesus was punished that we might be forgiven.
I remember once talking to a Jewish man who told me why he didn’t believe that Jesus was the Messiah: “He couldn’t have been a good man; God would never have let Him suffer like that.” And that is exactly what the prophet Isaiah said: “We esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted” (Isaiah 53:4). But verse 5 says, “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised [“crushed” NIV] for our iniquities; the chastisement [“punishment” NIV] for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes [“wounds” NIV] we are healed.”
Two major transactions are mentioned in those verses. The punishment due to our wrongdoing came upon Jesus so that we might be forgiven and have peace. Until the punishment for sin had been inflicted, there was no possibility of peace. Let’s look at another passage in Ephesians where Paul was speaking about what took place on the cross:
He Himself is our peace, who has made both [Jew and Gentile] one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near.
(Ephesians 2:14–17, emphasis added)
Notice the emphasis on the word “peace.” There can be no peace for the sinner until he knows that his sins have been forgiven. Jesus was punished so that we might have peace with God through forgiveness. (See also Colossians 1:19–20.)

Thank You, Jesus, for dying on the cross for me. I proclaim that Jesus was punished that we might be forgiven, so I might have peace with God through being forgiven. Amen.

Strong In God's Strength

Good, good insight in the following little devotional.
Just because we think we know what God wants from us, we really find out we don't have a clue.
Let's be humble enough to say, Lord, you know best for my life.
God Bless.
Strong in God’s Strength
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. - Philippians 4:13, NKJV
I was once sitting in an audience when the speaker asked, “What do you think God expects of you?” I mentally ticked off a list of things I thought God expected of me: obedience, faithfulness, holiness, love, service. To my astonishment, the speaker went on to say, “All God ever expects of you is failure!” I wanted to raise my hand and say, “I can do that! I can live up to the expectations of God! I know I can fail!” But then the speaker added, “However, He has given you the Holy Spirit so that you need never fail.” Right! Without Christ I can do nothing, but in Him I can do all things! The difference between strength and weakness, righteousness and wickedness, success and failure, is Jesus – the Holy Spirit – in me.

Then Keep Your Tongue

Here is some important information to live by.
God Bless.
Then keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies! (NLT) -Psalm 34:13
Words are the most powerful weapon in the world. We are to be careful to speak life and truth. Don’t let the enemy use exhaustion, stress or anger as an excuse to speak evil. Take care of yourself, so life can flow from your lips.

Quote Of The Day - Trust In Him

Trust the key ingredient for walking with the Lord. If we don't have it, well then, we are only half of who were were meant to be.
If you don't have, it is okay, trust is a work in progress and God will be willing to do most of the work to bring you where you need to be.
God Bless.
Quote of the Day
-Joyce Meyer
“Trust in Him When we trust in ourselves, it leads to strife and shows that we don’t trust God to do what He says in His Word—be with us, deliver us, and honor us. When we trust God, however, it leads to the reward of peace—peace within ourselves, peace with God, and peace with others.”

Quote Of The Day - Worry Does No Good

Got worry? Here is some solid advice concerning how to deal with it.
Just remember, it has not place in our lives. Easier said than done, I know and it's a constant battle but we are overcomers!
God Bless.
Quote of the Day
-Joyce Meyer
“Worry does no good and can impact your life in negative ways. I’m sure you have noticed how absolutely powerless you feel when you worry or you’re anxious and troubled, because worry is indeed completely useless. It is a waste of time and energy because it never changes your circumstances.”

Dream Big Dreams

Soooooo good! Dream big, my friend and watch what the Lord will do.

God Bless.

Dream Big Dreams

by Joyce Meyer

Through skillful and godly Wisdom is a house (a life, a home, a family) built, and by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation]. And by knowledge shall its chambers [of every area] be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
—Proverbs 24:3-4

Do you have a dream or a vision in your heart for something greater than what you have now? Ephesians 3:20 tells us God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above and beyond all we can hope, ask, or think. If you are not thinking, hoping, or asking—you are cheating yourself. You need to think big thoughts, dream big dreams, and ask for big things.
There is a gold mine of dreams, visions, abilities, and strength hidden in every life, but you have to dig to get to it. You must be willing to dig deep and go beyond how you feel or what is convenient. If you will dig down deep into the spirit, you will do greater things than anyone could ever imagine.

Be An Encourager

Truth to live by from none other than Joyce Meyer.

What she put's forth is a challenge for all who call themselves a Christian.

With that being said, may we live our lives encouraging others through their pain.

God Bless.

Be an Encourager

by Joyce Meyer

She comforts, encourages, and does him only good as long as there is life within her.
—Proverbs 31:12

This woman comforts her husband and does him good as long as there is life in her. Many marriages could be saved from divorce or disappointment if a woman would take the initiative to begin comforting and complimenting her husband. The husband also has the same responsibility, but if he is not doing it, I encourage you to be willing to step out and be the first to make a move in the right direction for your marriage. A spiritually mature woman will be the first to do what is right even if nobody else is doing so. A wise, understanding, and prudent wife is a gift from the Lord (Proverbs 19:14).
We notice in our reading of Proverbs 31:10–31 that there is no mention of what the husband does other than that he praises his spouse and is well-known in the city because of his fine wife. I believe if you take the first steps of obedience, then God will also deal with your husband and you will see positive changes in him. I also believe it will increase your own level of confidence. When we compliment others, we begin to see ourselves in a better light also.
Lord, help me to be the one who takes the initiative to encourage and compliment and comfort. In all my relationships, may I be the first to give, whether or not I receive the same back. Amen.

Medicine For Your Soul

Need some medicine for what ales you?

Well, this little devotional just might be for you.

The soul, mind, and spirit are always in need of a little TLC. May we take Joyce's words to heart and start the process of forgiveness so we may have a long life ahead of us.

God Bless.

Medicine for Your Soul

by Joyce Meyer

He will not always chide or be contending, neither will He keep His anger forever or hold a grudge.
—Psalm 103:9

When someone mistreats me, I initially feel angry, then I spend the next few minutes or hours, depending on the seriousness of the mistreatment, getting the emotion under control by talking to God. When you feel angry, consider these appropriate actions: talk to yourself about how foolish it is to let some unkind person ruin your day, and then follow Scripture and pray for the person who hurt you. Decide to believe the best of the person who offended you, and try to get your mind off the offense and onto something more pleasant. It is also helpful to remember that we also do things that hurt people, and often without even intending to do so. Obeying and meditating on the Word of God is medicine for our souls. It brings not only instruction, but comfort in every situation.
Power Thought: I am slow to anger and quick to forgive.

If He Calls, He Keeps

Having trouble keeping the faith? Especially until Jesus returns? Join the club.
Keeping the faith isn't for the weak of heart. It's hard and doubt looks for all sorts of cracks to take over you mind and heart.
Stay strong my friends and be encouraged with this little devotional.
God Bless.

[The Lord] will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. (1 Corinthians 1:8–9)
What are you depending on to ensure that your faith will last until Jesus comes? The question is not, Do you believe in eternal security? The question is, How are we kept secure? Does the perseverance of our faith rest decisively on the reliability of our own resolve? Or does it rest decisively on the work of God to “keep us trusting”? It is a great and wonderful truth of Scripture that God is faithful and will keep forever those whom he has called.
Our confidence that we are eternally secure is a confidence that God will do whatever is necessary to “keep us trusting!” The certainty of eternity is no greater than the certainty God will keep us trusting now. But that certainty is very great for all whom God has called. At least three passages put the call of God and the keeping of God together in this way. “The Lord will sustain you (keep you) to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord” (1 Corinthians 1:8–9). “May the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it” (1 Thessalonians 5:23–24). “Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James, to those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you” (Jude 1–2).
(See the same reality in Romans 8:30, Philippians 1:6, 1 Peter 1:5, and Jude 24.) The “faithfulness” of God guarantees that he will keep safe forever all whom he has called.

Drifting Along

Love, love, love this little devotional!
And I am drifting and wondering what my purpose is but I keep chugging along hoping my purpose will hit me in my face.
So when I read this little devotional, encouragement bubbled up within me and I am soaring with hope.
May you find the same hope and the willingness to pay it forward.
God Bless.
From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries. (NLT) -Acts 17:26
Do you ever feel like you are just drifting along in life, meandering along without a way or purpose? God created you and determined a reason for your existence. You are special and have value. From the beginning of time He thought you were important and deserved to be included in His grand plan. Ask God to bring His plan into your view. Even if it takes 3 months, 2 years, or a lifetime, continuously ask for God to reveal your purpose to come to fruition.

What Binds The Hand Of Love

I can't shout out how much I find the words written in this little devotional to be truthful and right on point for living in today's world.
However, I must be honest. I am guilty of what is written below. Maybe this is the reason I find the words written to be to close for comfort.
My hope is that for anyone who reads this will not only search their hearts one their own accord and make the necessary change needed but would also humble themselves and ask the Holy Spirit to show if anything is hidden and repent if need be.
God Bless.
We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. (Colossians 1:3–5)
The problem with the church today is not that there are too many people who are passionately in love with heaven. The problem is not that professing Christians are retreating from the world, spending half their days reading Scripture and the other half singing about their pleasures in God all the while indifferent to the needs of the world. That’s not happening! The people of God are not so full of love to God that they spend half their days in his word. The problem is that professing Christians are spending ten minutes reading Scripture and then half their day making money and the other half loving and repairing what they spend it on. It’s not heavenly-mindedness that hinders love for the lost and hurting of this world. It is worldly-mindedness that hinders love, even when it is disguised by a religious routine on the weekend. Where is the person whose heart is so passionately in love with the promised glory of heaven that he feels like an exile and a sojourner on the earth? Where is the person who has so tasted the beauty of the age to come that the diamonds of the world look like marbles from the dollar store, and the entertainment of the world feels empty, and the moral causes of the world are too small because they have no view to eternity? Where is this person? To be sure, he is not in bondage to the Internet or eating or sleeping or drinking or partying or fishing or sailing or putzing around. He is a free man in a foreign land.
And his one question is this: How can I maximize my enjoyment of God for all eternity while I am an exile on this earth? And his answer is always the same: by doing the labors of love. By expanding my joy in God, no matter the cost, if by any means possible I might include others in it. Only one thing satisfies the heart whose treasure is in heaven: doing the works of heaven. And heaven is a world of love! It is not the cords of heaven that bind the hands of love and make them ineffective. It is the love of money and leisure and comfort and praise — these are the cords of selfishness that bind the hands of love. And the power to sever these cords is Christian hope. “We heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven” (Colossians 1:4–5).
I say it again with all the conviction that lies within me: it is not heavenly-mindedness that hinders love on this earth. It is worldly-mindedness. And therefore the great fountain of love is the powerful, freeing confidence of Christian hope.
