When The Holy Spirit Falls Upon Saul

This little devotional is full of wisdom about the Holy Spirit. He's waiting for us to get to know Him, His characteristics, and learn what He can do for us

God Bless.

When the Holy Spirit was upon Saul, Saul spared his enemies. At that time King Saul was kind, forgiving, and compassionate toward his enemies. That’s the mark of a Spirit-filled life.

But later after the Holy Spirit left his life, Saul sought to kill his former friends and family members. After Saul’s first victory in battle, the people approached Samuel and wanted to put to death the rebels who had murmured against Saul originally. Saul overheard them and said not to hurt anyone. Now contrast that to the time after the Spirit of God departed from Saul. He went out of his way to kill David, his own son-in-law, a courageous man who often put his life on the line for him, pursuing him for fourteen years.

The Holy Spirit helps us not to react to people’s adverse comments or actions but to pause and respond in God’s way. When the Holy Spirit fills us, He will help us with processing negative feelings when we are criticized, attacked, undermined, and overlooked. Our human tendency is to fight back, to defend our name, and to get involved in battles that are not ours to fight. That’s called reaction. Without the Holy Spirit, we react to the pain caused by our enemies. With the Holy Spirit, we respond the way that pleases God in the midst of that hurt.

Let’s pray together.

Holy Spirit, replace the night within me with the day.

Are You Obeying God

Good question. Are you? May you find encouragement in the word's below.

God Bless.

Are You Obeying God?

God wants our obedience. When we obey Him, we are showing God that we love Him. Have you listened to His commands and followed them? Are you obeying God rather than men? God needs you to step out and make a difference for Him. He needs you to let go of your fear and start trusting Him again. You have let others control your thoughts and hold you down. Christ wants to lift you as you trust Him more and more. He will exalt you at the proper time when you humble yourself before Him. Stop listening to the other voices and let God’s voice be the one you hear and obey to find freedom, peace and utmost joy!

“WE MUST OBEY GOD RATHER THAN MEN.”

ACTS 5:29

Dear Lord,

You want me to obey You rather than men. You will never lead me in the wrong direction as I trust You. I have seen Your glory as I stay close to You. You speak as I listen. You have directed my path as you prepare me for more opportunities to share Your love. I am listening to what You need me to do, Lord. You want me to be a witness for others to see You. As I do, I am obeying my call to love. I will not let anything or anyone else stop me from pursuing You with all of my heart!

In Jesus' name,

Amen

His Word

His Word

Today : His Word

TODAY’S VERSE
“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12 (NIV)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
How important is it for you and I to spend time with God in His word? It is imperative! It is a must. ToIf we are going to live the kind of life God wants us to, then we must spend time listening to what God has to say about it. Everything we do is based on the various beliefs, perceptions, and assumptions we have. Many of these were shaped in childhood. Others are the result of the knowledge and experience we pick up as adults. If we are going to shape our thinking and behavior so that it aligns with His will for us, we must let His word penetrate deep into our heart and make all the necessary changes it needs to. The author of Hebrews compares the word of God to a sharp, double edged sword. Just like a sword can cut deep into our flesh and bone, so God’s word cuts to the thoughts and attitudes that we hide deep in our heart. God then can use His word to judge and correct those core beliefs that guide the way we live. Habits, addictions, compulsive behavior, negative emotions can all change, if we let His living and active word work in our heart.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Father, please use Your word to mold me, change me and make me more like You. Cut to my inner thoughts and beliefs. Judge them, correct them and align them with Yours. In Jesus Name.
AMEN

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION & MEDITATION
God’s Word Changes Me
Meditate on today’s verse. Visualize God’s word as living and active changing your thoughts and emotions. Sense God sharing with you, moving in your heart. See His joy as He imparts His word to you penetrating deep into your soul and changing your attitudes.

Resisting The Temptation To Worry

Wisdom for such a time as this.

God Bless.

Resisting the Temptation to Worry

Adapted from the resource Starting Your Day Right - by Joyce Meyer

It is a learning process to keep the devil from stealing your joy, because he constantly tempts you in new ways to lose your peace. If Satan gets your peace, then he will get your joy. Be strong and resist his temptation to make you worry.

God never intended for you to worry! In fact, when the circumstances of life begin to overwhelm you or when feelings of dread attack your mind, the Lord wants you to pray and release your burdens to Him.

Spend time studying the Word. It’s literally full of ways to help you fight the temptation to worry.

Prayer Starter: God, thank You for your Word and for all the ways that You give me peace and help me fight the devil. Amen.

Who Is The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit should become our best friend. We need to get to know Him better than we know any body.

God Bless.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

GENESIS 1:1-2

Imagine God’s Spirit hovering over the face of the earth. Everything is dark and without form until God breathes out the words, “Let there be light.” In an instant, everything changes. The light pierces the darkness, and what was once invisible is now seen clearly. This is what God’s Spirit does. He is always close, always near, always bringing to light what was once covered in darkness.

He was there with Moses, leading the Israelites through the wilderness. He was there with David, empowering him to defeat Goliath. He was there with the prophet Isaiah, giving him the words to say about the coming of Jesus. He was there with Jesus, setting Him apart as God’s Son. And God’s Holy Spirit is still here. Now, anyone who believes in Jesus can experience the Holy Spirit’s profound presence.

But what does that actually mean? What does experiencing the Holy Spirit look like?

And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

ACTS 2:38

There’s evidence throughout Scripture that the Holy Spirit empowered particular people to take part in His plans and to remind others of His purpose. But Jesus’ sacrificial death and miraculous resurrection changed everything. For the first time in history, anyone who chose to believe in Jesus could receive His Holy Spirit.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.

JOHN 14:16-17

The gift of the Holy Spirit is still available to anyone who believes in Jesus. And by receiving that gift, God empowers us to live in a way that honors Him and reflects His character. Essentially, when we ask God to draw near to us, we become more aware of God’s presence and power in our lives. This means that even in our darkest moments, we are never actually alone. The Holy Spirit is closer to you than your own breath.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

ROMANS 8:26

No matter your situation or background, when you belong to Christ, His Holy Spirit is with you at all times, empowering and strengthening you, and praying on your behalf. He understands your needs because He understands you.

And because God understands you, He is always working on your behalf for your good and His glory. This doesn’t mean you won’t endure suffering or encounter hardships. But even in the midst of those trials, God, through the power of His Holy Spirit, will continue to draw you closer to Himself.

Even when you’re at your weakest, there is nothing that God cannot do through you when His Holy Spirit lives within you.

And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. …And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.

Ezekiel 36:26-27

You are never far from God’s presence. When you make the decision to accept Jesus as the risen Son of God, you get all the benefits that come with that— including the Holy Spirit being with you at all times.

So take a moment and ask yourself these reflection questions:

  • Do I believe that Jesus is God?

  • Have I asked Jesus to change my life?

If you can answer “yes” to both of those questions, then you have access to God’s Holy Spirit. But having access to God and going through life with God are completely different things.

When we obey God out of love for Him and acknowledge Jesus as Lord of our lives, we allow the Holy Spirit to thrive in our lives. For this reason, living a Spirit-filled life requires intentionally seeking God every day.

It’s through intentional time with God that you discover how to love Him, love others, and make disciples. It’s through getting to know God’s character that you become familiar with His Spirit’s power, presence, and authority. And it’s through the power of the Holy Spirit that you become aware of how your actions and choices affect your relationship with God and other people.

Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.

2 CORINTHIANS 3:17-18

Ultimately, the Holy Spirit is available to everyone who becomes a follower of Christ, and He wants to empower you to live in a manner worthy of the calling God has placed on you.

Are You Believing The Lord With One Heart

Thought provoking.

God Bless.

Are You Believing the Lord With One Heart and Soul?

The Lord has brought life into our hearts and power into our soul through His spiritual blessings. He wants us to come together as one to pray and believe Him with one heart and soul. He knows our every need and wants us to believe that He can do the impossible. Are you believing for what you hope for but cannot see? Have you given the Lord all of your heart? Keep praying together faithfully with others with one heart and soul turned to the Lord. Hear His love and feel His presence as you pray. He will strengthen you and give you patient endurance and spiritual power for the journey ahead!

“NOW THE FULL NUMBER OF THOSE WHO BELIEVED WERE OF ONE HEART AND SOUL.”

ACTS 4:32

Dear Lord,

I know that You will strengthen me for the days ahead when I believe with one heart and soul turned to You. You have blessed me richly with all of Your spiritual blessings indeed! I have taken hold of Your hand  and I am enriched in every way. I will keep praying with others as You desire. Your presence is among us when two or more come together to pray in agreement for what is on our hearts. When we join hearts and souls together as one, we can rejoice knowing that You are there! It is so good to be present in Your presence, Lord!

In Jesus' name,

Amen

With The Holy Spirit, Boldness

We need to get bold. But more importantly, we need to be Holy Spirit bold-like.

May this little devotional help in getting us there.

God Bless.

With the Holy Spirit, boldness was released into Saul and he acted on borderline recklessness. He killed his oxen and sent a very strong message to the people of Israel. He was decisive, bold, and courageous. Years later, because of his disobedience, the Holy Spirit left Saul. He became paranoid, scared, and acted like a coward.

When we are full of the Holy Spirit (totally surrendered), we are filled with boldness; but when we are controlled by our “self,” we will remain normal or “balanced.” People who lead balanced lives do not change history or make big impacts on the world around them. It is the people who step out in faith,  take risks, and are bold who are remembered and who impact the world.

At the time while King Saul was playing it safe, waiting forty days for Goliath to make the first move,  David came onto the scene.  Without military experience or a prophetic word to fight a giant, he threw himself into the battle against Goliath. David had what Saul had lost - boldness. He wasn’t stupid or reckless. David had a relationship with the Holy Spirit. Relationship leads to risk; risk leads to reward. Saul didn’t value his relationship with the Holy Spirit, and now he was paying the price - he lost boldness. He became “balanced.” He lost courage; he became cautious. He lost faith; he was playing it safe.

Intimacy is the key to boldness. Boldness is the key to miracles. Someone who leads a balanced, calculated life will not dream of stepping out and praying for someone to be healed. But someone who has the boldness that the Holy Spirit gives will step out and pray for healing. Or the boldness to walk on water. Or the boldness to sacrifice. Or the boldness to cast out demons. Or the boldness to share their faith with a stranger. If you don’t step out and take a risk, there is no chance for success. Stop playing it safe! Get into your secret place, develop intimacy with the Holy Spirit, and then step out and live in the faith zone.

Let’s pray together.

Holy Spirit, replace the fear within me with a strong faith.

God's Name

Good Info below.

God Bless.

God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations.” (Exodus 3:15)

God’s name is almost always translated LORD (all caps) in the English Bible. But the Hebrew would be pronounced something like “Yahweh,” and is built on the word for “I am.”

So every time we hear the word Yahweh, or every time you see LORD in the English Bible, you should think: this is a proper name (like Peter or John) built out of the word for “I am” and reminding us each time that God absolutely is.

There are at least 10 things the name Yahweh, “I AM,” says about God:

1. He never had a beginning. Every child asks, “Who made God?” And every wise parent says, “Nobody made God. God simply is. And always was. No beginning.”

2. God will never end. If he did not come into being he cannot go out of being, because he is being.

3. God is absolute reality. There is no reality before him. There is no reality outside of him unless he wills it and makes it. He is all that was eternally. No space, no universe, no emptiness. Only God.

4. God is utterly independent. He depends on nothing to bring him into being or support him or counsel him or make him what he is.

5. Everything that is not God depends totally on God. The entire universe is utterly secondary. It came into being by God and stays in being moment by moment on God’s decision to keep it in being.

6. All the universe is by comparison to God as nothing. Contingent, dependent reality is to absolute, independent reality as a shadow to substance. As an echo to a thunderclap. All that we are amazed by in the world and in the galaxies is, compared to God, as nothing.

7. God is constant. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He cannot be improved. He is not becoming anything. He is who he is.

8. God is the absolute standard of truth and goodness and beauty. There is no law-book to which he looks to know what is right. No almanac to establish facts. No guild to determine what is excellent or beautiful. He himself is the standard of what is right, what is true, what is beautiful.

9. God does whatever he pleases and it is always right and always beautiful and always in accord with truth. All reality that is outside of him he created and designed and governs as the absolute reality. So he is utterly free from any constraints that don’t originate from the counsel of his own will.

10. God is the most important and most valuable reality and person in the universe. He is more worthy of interest and attention and admiration and enjoyment than all other realities, including the entire universe.

Wait Patiently For

Waiting is not an easy thing to do but when you are dealing with God, waiting is just apart of the game but, oh so worth it.

Be encouraged, my friend, He won't let us down.

God Bless.

Wait Patiently For

If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed. (NLT) -Habakkuk 2:3

It's difficult emotionally when we're being mistreated or harmed by others. It happens regularly at our work and even in our homes.  Our humanly instinct is to immediately attack back or get revenge. However, that's not what God has planned for us. Wait patiently, allowing God to levy punishment on His time. God wants us to pray for our enemies, not harm them.

Be encouraged.

God Bless.

Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21

Father God, I thank you for your daughter. I plead the blood of Jesus over her now. I thank you that nothing can separate her from your love. Nothing can separate her from your favor. Nothing can separate her from your purpose and plan for her life. Father God no matter what fire she has gone through, no matter what fire she is in right now and no matter what fire she will go through, I pray you help her maintain her integrity. Help her persevere by faith. Help her continue to walk in love. Help her pay the great price of laying aside her will so she can receive your will for her that far exceeds anything she can ask or think. And as she does, I pray you will give her great promotion, great increase, great advancement, great expansion, and great victory. In Jesus name. Amen.

You Can Begin Again

Wisdom and encouragement below.

God Bless.

You Can Begin Again

Adapted from the resource The Confident Woman - by Joyce Meyer

Are you doing what you really believe you should be doing at this stage in your life, or have you allowed fear and a lack of confidence to prevent you from stepping out into new things—or higher levels of old things? If you don't like your answer, then let me give you some good news: It is never too late to begin again! Don't spend one more day living a narrow life that has room for only you and your fears. Make a decision right now that you will learn to live boldly, aggressively, and confidently. Don't let fear rule you any longer.

It's important to note that you can't just sit around and wait for fear to go away. You will have to feel the fear and take action anyway. Or, as John Wayne put it, "Courage is being scared to death, but saddling up anyway." In other words, courage is not the absence of fear; it is action in the presence of fear. Bold people do what they know they should do—not what they feel like doing.

Prayer Starter: Lord, show me any narrowness in my life and help me to take the steps of faith that break the rule of fear over my life, amen.

Love Is Obvious

Good and thought provoking info below.

Be encouraged.

God Bless.

You should never have to look too far to know if someone really loves you. It’s clear based on how they treat you. If you find yourself making excuses for abusive, unfaithful or immoral behavior, and saying to yourself, “They really love me deep down inside.” No, real love is obvious. Love is an action word that shows in our behavior. It’s not buried deep down somewhere in the abyss of someone’s heart. It’s not something you have to strain your eyes in order to see a speck of hope. Someone either loves you or they don’t. In many relationships, this is the harsh reality that couples face. They come to the realization that their companion does not love them. As heartbreaking as this could be, it’s a truth that needs to be exposed and admitted to before they go any further.

The best way to know real love is to discover it in God. When you learn His love, you’ll be able to see it in others.

How does God love us? The Bible says, “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:1-13

Only the Lord can put this kind of love is someone’s heart. He plants His love in our heart and it produces visible fruit in our lives.

Prayer: Father God, I thank you for your wisdom and knowledge to discern real love. Help me to know real love when I see it and not make excuses for behavior that is not right. Bless me Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

My Specific Place

Love this...be encouraged.

God Bless.

I am a member of the body of Christ.
Jesus said that if we have “faith as a mustard seed,” we can
move a mountain. (See Matthew 17:20.) It is not the
quantity of your faith, but rather the quality, that matters.
Faith is given to those who are realistic and humble.
Why does God give you a specific measure of faith?
(See Romans 12:3.) Because He has a specific place for you
in the body of Christ. He has ordained you to serve a
specific function as a specific member of the body of
Christ. The faith He has given you is designed for your
position in the body. If God wants you to be a hand, He will
give you “hand” faith. If He wants you to be an ear, He will
give you “ear” faith. If He wants you to be a toe, He will
give you “toe” faith. But if you are a toe and you are trying
to be a nose, there will be a complete imbalance between
what you are trying to do and the faith that you have. The
reason is not that you do not have enough faith, but that you
are trying to use your faith for something for which it was
not meant to be used. It was given for the specific job and
place you have in the body of believers.
My hand does a wonderful job as a hand. It opens my
Bible, turning the pages. It does most everything I ask of it.
But if should I try to do those jobs with my foot, I would be
in trouble.
If you are always struggling for faith, you are probably
trying to do the wrong job. You are a hand trying to be a
foot, or a foot trying to be a hand. This is God’s way of
guiding you into your place.
Thank You, Jesus, for making me a part of Your
body. I proclaim that God is guiding me into my
specific place, for I am a member of the body of
Christ. Amen.

Reach Your Full Potential

Some food for thought from Joyce. I'm going to leave it right here.

God Bless.

Adapted from the resource
The Power of Being Thankful - by Joyce Meyer

I fully believe that reaching your potential is linked to the way you handle adversity. Adversity isn’t always bad. Adversity can be something to be thankful for because God can use it to strengthen you. Winston Churchill said: “Difficulties mastered are opportunities won,” and I wholeheartedly agree.

If you allow difficulties and challenges to frustrate, intimidate, or discourage you, you will never overcome them. But if you face them head-on and press through the adversities you encounter, refusing to give up during them and moving forward with a heart of gratitude, you will develop the skills and determination needed to be everything you were created to be and experience everything God intends for you.

Prayer Starter: I thank You, Father, that I don’t have to give up when I face adversity—I can meet it head-on, knowing that You are always with me. Thank You for the promise that greater is He who is in me, than he who is in the world.

Prayer Is Talking To God

Prayer is talking to God. All it is, is talking to Him and listening for Him to answer you. He answers in many different ways, mainly through His Word. But, sometimes you just have that still small voice on the inside of you that you just kind of know what you need to do.

Kindness Is Seen In The Way You Speak

Kindness, the new world order. Spread it like confetti.

God Blsss.

Kindness Is Seen in the Way You Speak To Others

One of the primary ways kindness manifests is in the way we speak to others. This includes the way we talk to friends, family, co-workers, store clerks, pastors, strangers on social media, and especially to those who are unkind to us (when the average Joe will just strike back).

Knowing that you attract people to God when you show the fruit of kindness in the way you talk to others, ask yourself this: Can people count on you to be positive and encouraging when they talk to you? Or do they expect negativity and words of criticism?

We all have to work at being kind, but ultimately, we are all held responsible for every word we speak (see today’s reading). Here’s a quick self-check to see the condition of the fruit of kindness on your tree.

  • Are you respectful, loving, and encouraging to your spouse or are you always pointing out their faults?
  • Do you discipline your children with love and encouragement, or are you harsh and critical?
  • Do you respect your grown children, or do you pout or make them feel guilty if they don’t do what you want them to?
  • Are you a kind and encouraging in-law?
  • If you’re a boss or leader, do you lead by building relationships and expressing appreciation to your team or do you lead by intimidation and threats?
  • Here’s the biggest test of all: If asked, would every person in your life describe you as kind?

These questions certainly aren’t meant to condemn any of us. We all need work! And without doing a self-check within certain areas, we won’t be able to grow, mature, and develop into the kind of people who are pleasing to God, attracting unbelievers to Him, and living a blessed life!

Bottom line? We, as Christians, should always strive to talk to others in a way that builds them up and encourages them, not criticizes or tears them down.
