How Well Do You Know God

I couldn't agree more with this little devotional and I'm sad to say, I am a little bit guilty of doing what it say's.

It's heart issue and I need to turn my eyes back to the One who is greater than anything I am listening to and focusing on right now.

Change my heart, O God...

“Behold, God is great, and we know him not; the number of his years is unsearchable.” (Job 36:26)

It is impossible to know God too well. He is the most important person who exists. And this is because he made all others, and any importance they have is owing to him. Any strength or intelligence or skill or beauty they have comes from him. On every scale of excellence, he is infinitely greater than the best person you ever knew or ever heard of. Being infinite, he is inexhaustibly interesting. It is impossible, therefore, that God be boring. His continual demonstration of the most intelligent and interesting actions is volcanic. As the source of every good pleasure, he himself pleases fully and finally. If that’s not how we experience him, we are either dead or sleeping. It is therefore astonishing how little effort is put into knowing God. It’s as though the President of the United States came to live with you for a month, and you only said hello in passing every day or so. Or as if you were flown at the speed of light for a couple of hours around the sun and the solar system, and instead of looking out the window, you played a computer game.

Or as if you were invited to watch the best actors, singers, athletes, inventors, and scholars perform their best, but you declined to go so you could watch the TV season’s final soap. Let us pray that our infinitely great God would open our eyes and hearts to see him and seek to know him more.

I Will Walk In Freedom

Let freedom ring not only in your life but throughout this land and across the world.

When you are driving and find you are driving under the speed limit there is a sense of freedom. There are no worries of wondering what the speed limit is, if you will get caught, or feeling guilty for speeding. Devoting yourself to knowing and honoring God's ways brings freedom in the same way. You can walk confidently with God.

For We Know

1 Thessalonians 1:4-7 For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you,  because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.  And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.

Today we learn that the gospel comes in at least 3 forms: in words; in power, and in the Holy Spirit with deep conviction. At times the gospel comes as a combination of the 3, working together to reveal Christ Jesus, and assault the heart of a sinner with God's amazing grace. We experience an amazing change because of the power of the gospel. Conviction indicates the birth of change, and conviction revealed by the Holy Spirit of God even more so, and toward His purposes for us. Holy Spirit, lead us into all good things together in Christ Jesus.

The Gospel Message

God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life

- 1 John 5:11-12

There are some things in life you can do without. You can survive without smartphones, shopping malls, or football games. You can even get by without life insurance, 401(k) plans, or home equity. But you cannot do without the Son of God.

God has given us eternal life. What a mercy! What a revelation! Everything in our experience screams to us that our life is temporary. Pets rotate through our life; family members die; we get older. Nothing lives forever. But God has given us eternal life!

How can mere mortals live forever? Certainly not in their own strength or by their own ingenuity. No, God has given us eternal life, but this life is in his Son Jesus Christ. Only the source of life Himself can carry us through death and bring us into an everlasting and delightful life on the other side.

The one who has the Son of God has life... right now. Eternal life begins the moment Jesus Christ takes up residence in your heart. If you have Jesus Christ then you are already enjoying the eternal life, the abundant life right now. But the one who does not have the Son has no such promise, no such current and joyful reality.

The good news of the gospel, then, is only to those who have Jesus Christ. Do you have the Son? Do you have eternal life?

Sacrificing Entitlement

Amen! We need to learn what crosses to pick up and which ones to lay down. When we do that, we just might start a revolution that would and could stretch across from sea to shining see and everything in between.

Devotional

I deserve it! Have you ever said those words? We value ourselves based on the sacrifices we have made or the injustices we have experienced. Sacrifice seems to invoke a sense of entitlement and establishes idols in our lives that we run to instead of Christ for comfort. Let the "cross" you bear bring you closer to Christ who carried the Cross for you.

Goodness And Mercy

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.” Psalms 23:6

Two people knocked on the door of her home. Staring at them through the crack of the door, she asked, “Yes, can I help you?” They said, “We have been assigned to follow you everyday for the rest of your life.” She laughed, “You want to do what!?” They said, “Our names are Goodness and Mercy and your Father in heaven has sent us here to follow you wherever you go.” She was cautious. Life had taught her some hard lessons about trusting others. As she stood there, she could see Corruption and Dismay lurking behind the trees, with a sneaky grin on their faces. She was all too familiar with them and had just kicked them out of her house. However, they knew if she didn’t receive God’s Goodness and Mercy into her home, they would find their way eventually back into her life. As she stood there, she whispered to herself, “If anyone is going to follow me, it won’t be Corruption and Dismay. It won’t be what I’ve always experienced in my past.” She then opened the door—as wide as she could open, and Goodness and Mercy came into her home and closed the door behind them. Whenever she stumbled, Mercy was there to pick her up and dress her wounds. Mercy helped remind her of the Father’s love regardless of her many mistakes. Whenever she faced a trial, Goodness was there to help her gather all the treasures that came from it. Goodness was always excited about the Father’s expected end for her. Through the years, their friendship grew. They followed her through every moment in her life, every joyous victory and every heart-wrenching tragedy. They were there and never left her side. And when her time had come to take her last breath, Goodness and Mercy escorted her to her heavenly home where she would live for eternity with these two heavenly servants and her heavenly Father.

Prayer: Father God, yes, I receive your Goodness and Mercy in the home of my heart. I open the door as wide as I can to you. Heal every wound and cause me to gather all the treasure after every trial I face. Until I take my last breath, be with me and be glorified in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Stay Alert

Distractions are truly the gift from satan himself and we just keep unwrapping them.

It is time we started to recognize distractions for what they are and send them back the pits of hell where they belong and begin to live again.

When our focus is buried in the details of our days, it’s easy to forget about eternity with Jesus. Stay alert to what God is doing in your life. Don’t let the enemy steal your heavenly reward through distraction.
