The Banner Of Love

Who couldn't use a banner of love over their lives? If your are even thinking about it, well this little devotional is for you.
Or maybe you need to dig deeper in what God calls love like me or maybe you just enjoy a good devotional then read on and God Bless.

The Banner of Love
The book, Song of Solomon, speaks of love – the love of a bridegroom for his bride. It is symbolic of the love of Christ for His bride, the Church, which includes all of us. Christ’s love is unconditional and is known as ‘agape love’. The Bible says, while we were yet sinners, Jesus died for us. The greatest example of love is in John 3:16. We were all called to love, just as Christ loves us. It is very easy to love our friends but very tough to love our enemies.
However, Jesus repeatedly spoke of loving our enemies more than our friends. We go through so much of bitterness because of hurt that we harden our hearts and wase refuse to forgive and forget. I struggle every day to obey the Lord’s command to love my enemies. Sometimes, I find it difficult, but I pray that I will be able to obey this command fully, as I do not want to live in the sin of disobeying my Lord. Our struggle is not against human flesh and blood, but against the powers and principalities of this dark world (Ephesians 6:12). How do we bring ourselves to forgive and love? Only the Lord can help us. We cannot love our enemies with our own strength. The Lord says, we can do all things, not by our own might or power, but by His Spirit (Zechariah 4:6).
Gradually, as we read the Word and find solace in Him, we can overcome our hatred. The love of Christ was not in vain. He still loves the world. He went through immense pain, hurt, rejection and insults, but He never gave up His love for His people.

Prayer Lord Jesus, help me to do as Your Word commands, to love those who hate and persecute me. I cannot do this in my own strength, so help me, Lord. Amen.
